Commissioned furniture often begins with a client telling me they've liked what they've seen of my work, and would like me to design something specific for their home.
After some discussion about their requirements, likes or dislikes etc., it moves into the design phase. At this point a design fee is requested based on the scope of the project.
Generally I provide a solution with one or two variations, including cost options, and the client chooses the one that suits them best.
Once the design has been determined, and timeframe estimated, a deposit is requested. Typically the deposit is 50% of total cost, with the final 50% due upon completion. Sometimes on more involved projects we'll divide the payments into thirds or fourths.
The price of the commission is fixed before construction begins, and will not vary unless the client requests a change mid-way through construction. (This has happened only once in 30 years.)
Please call Michael with any questions about commissioning work.
